Affiliated Service Providers of Indiana (ASPIN) recognizes the tremendous impact that opioid use disorders (OUD), other substance use disorders (SUD), and trauma has had on Indiana residents. Through funding from Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), ASPIN will train and certify CHWs who will be prepared to provide support services to families and children whose parents or guardians are impacted by OUD and SUD, including children who have experienced trauma and/or are at risk for mental health disorders. ASPIN has enhanced the existing OIFSP by expanding didactic training to include trauma-informed care and working with youth, along with the development of additional experiential learning opportunities, including Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE), and in-person, hands-on training with our partner organizations. Through this training, ASPIN strives to increase the number of CCHWs in the behavioral health workforce, who are well equipped to serve individuals, families, and children whose parents or guardians are impacted by OUD in high-demand, high-need areas.
How the Program Works:
There are seven components to the AOIFSP certification training.

V. Domestic Violence: Students will then receive an additional 11+ hours of online domestic violence-related training
VI. Virtual Field Placements: Students will complete 23+ hours of three virtual field placement modules with OR receive job experience credit.
VII. Experiential Learning: Students will then complete an 8-hour in-person field placement with partnering organization as part of an interdisciplinary team and participate in a Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) training.
VIII: Apprenticeship: Qualifying students will enter ASPIN’s US Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program for Certified Community Health Workers. The Project Coordinator will work with the students to seek employment as a CCHW in a high need and high demand area.
